The Olympics may have ended 8 days ago, but the insane talent displayed during the two weeks still amazes me.
One Olympian that particularly caught my eye was Canadian and slope-style snowboarding bronze medalist Mark McMorris. His performance not only led him to the podium, but also captured the hearts of girls worldwide with his strikingly good looks. But a pretty face isn't all McMorris has going for him. He continues to show amazing talent on the snow which has earned him 3 gold and 3 silver medals in the Winter X games, a silver medal in World Championships, not to mention that bronze in Sochi. Of course, these medals were earned through hard work and dedication, especially the Olympic bronze.
semifinal qualifiersIn the 2014 Winter X Games, the only thing that practically separated McMorris from a third consecutive gold medal in slope style was a unfortunate accident taken in the final run of the event. Towards the beginning if his run, McMorris clipped a rail, landing on his side farther down the rail fracturing a rib. Mind you, this happened January 25 and the men's slopestlye competition took place February 6-8 and he STILL got a spot on the podium. Maybe he had to compete through the pain or maybe the fracture barely effected him, we'll never know for sure. But what we do know is that the drive to an Olympic medal is so great that practically nothing can stop an athlete from giving it all he or she has inside them. Even after taking a tumble in the qualification rounds, he still managed to put out a killer second run in the finals that would ultimately get him that bronze neckwear. Props to you Mark, and I hope to see your fresh new talent soon.
