Lorde, who is also known as simply Ella, has come a long way from her hometown in New Zealand. With Royals charting #1 in the U.S. for a consecutive eight weeks, there is no doubt Lorde is ready to take the Pop throne.
Released on September 30, her debut album Pure Heroine is not something you would expect from a seventeen year old. Even before her debut album was available, the vocalist had released an EP titled The Love Club in 2012. Although her talent was found at the age of 14 through her school talent show, Lorde’s talent has been nurtured since she was signed on to Universal. The persona of Lorde has been in the works, but seems more natural than any big machine made pop performer.
A passionate love to read and write is something Lorde exemplifies through her debut album. The album includes a mix of alternative and pop beats accompanying realistic and thought out lyrics. Unlike other pop artists, Lorde sticks to a relatable theme describing instances in her life and teenage dilemmas. Even her hit single ‘Royals’ details on how the dream of wealth and partying isn’t attainable, maybe even imaginary.
With a nonchalant and straightforward attitude, Lorde is still your average seventeen year old who wants to party with friends and occasionally post on Tumblr. Her media persona is something she rather not accentuate on, only doing so many photo shoots and stressing her mysterious aura.
Lorde recently signed a 2.5 million dollar recording contract on November 7th – coincidentally on her seventeenth birthday – and is still reining queen on the charts.
